A year in Provence — Peter Mayle.
Delightful, feel-good, bed-time reading. Reminds me of André Brink’s brilliant
books on Spain and Provence. Not every author has the gift to turn
ordinary experiences into magic. **
In the beauty of the Lilies — John Updike. I gave up after reading
50%. Verbose descriptions suffocate any vestiges of a story that might be
present.
Here on Earth — Alice Hoffmann. She develops Hollis into a
memorable Heathcliff-like figure. ***
Serendipities — Umberto Eco. Nothing new, but still intellectually
stimulating. **
The Poisonwood Bible — Barbara Kingsolver 1998. A lirical sense of
tragedy wil remain with me forever. This book should be prescribed word
for every student in missiology. *****
